February 2023 Social Media Days

The darker days of January are soon behind us as fun February makes its appearance. It may be a shorter month, but it brings plenty of fantastic days and trends we can get involved with on our social media!

Here are some of the popular just-for-fun and awareness days that you can include in your social media marketing calendar for this month.

Social Media Days this February

1st – National Girls & Women in Sport Day – Today is about bringing awareness to those gender stereotypes that still plague women and girls in sport and celebrate all the amazing achievements past and present. If you’re a woman involved in sport, then it’s a great day to share your experience – you never know who you might inspire!

2nd – Time to Talk Day – It’s time to “make a space in your day for a conversation about mental health”! Time to Talk Day invites individuals and organisations to open up about mental health and have a chat over a coffee with friends, family or colleagues – or maybe even a stranger! You can download digital assets for this wonderful campaign here: https://timetotalkday.co.uk/

2nd – Groundhog Day – Will famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow and predict 6 more weeks of winter, or will it go unnoticed for an early spring? This bizarre yet traditional event in Philadelphia that has been ongoing for over 100 years attracts thousands of visitors to see the outcome – with many of us hoping for that early spring, of course.

4th - World Cancer Day – This year’s theme for World Cancer Day is to “Close the care gap”. It aims to bring awareness to the inequalities of care provisions for different demographics, including race and location. The Union for International Cancer Control who promote this event invite everybody to get involved using the hashtags #WorldCancerDay and #CloseTheCareGap, and by using their social media materials found here: https://www.worldcancerday.org/materials

9th - National Pizza Day – Pizza is such a favourite takeaway choice for people around the world! If you needed an excuse to order one or even make your own, here it is! What toppings are included in your perfect pizza? Or, if you want to stir up even more of a debate with your audience, simply ask: “Pineapple on pizza?”

12th – Super Bowl Sunday – The final game in the American Football season kicks off on 12th February this year. Although obviously massive in the USA, the Super Bowl is viewed around the world as the fanbase continues to grow. Are you a fan of the NFL? Any predictions?

13th – Galentine’s Day – The character Leslie Knope in the show Parks & Recreation in 2010 famously said: “February 14th Valentine's Day is about romance but February 13th, Galentine's Day, is about celebrating lady friends. It’s wonderful and it should be a national holiday.” Since then, Galentine’s Day has become widely popular with women celebrating their gal pals. It’s a fun, feel-good day about friendship.

14th - Valentine's Day – We’ve already seen the cards for this day pop up in the shops right after Christmas, so we know this is the next big “holiday” for many to think about! You may even consider running some quick campaigns leading up to this day – whether you have some great gifts on offer or even just want to jump on the lovely Valentine’s Day theme.

(P.S. If you haven’t seen my Instagram Reel or TikTok on Valentine’s Day hashtags, be sure to have a quick look before running your Valentine’s Day campaigns!)

17th - Random Acts of Kindness Day - This day is all about spreading kindness and positivity, and if you take one small action, it can start a whole wave of kindness! Random acts of kindness are, of course, lovely anytime of the year, but today, think about how you can put a smile on someone’s face. Remember, no act of kindness is ever too small.

18th – Drink Wine Day – There are so many different days related to wine, including Wine Day, Wine & Cheese Day and also Drink Wine Day…who am I to choose just one?! 😊 Are you a wine lover? Which type would you go for first?

20th – Presidents Day – This is a national holiday celebrated in America to honour leaders of the country. It is marked with a long weekend, and usually lots of sales! If you’re a small business in the US, you may want to consider creating a small campaign during this weekend to help shift some end-of-season goods (or to just get in front of people when they’re actively looking to buy!)

21st – Pancake Day/Shrove Tuesday – One of the yummiest days of the year is on the 21st of this month. Do you make sure to enjoy pancakes on this day? Do you have a preference of toppings? I admit I haven’t taken to the UK pancakes yet and still make the fluffy American-style ones for dinner every year!

February is also…

LGBTQ+ History Month

Black History Month (US)
